Portland’s music scene just got a major upgrade for the younger crowd. The nonprofit organization Friends of Noise has officially opened The Off Beat, a brand-new, all-ages music venue located in the Kenton neighborhood. Occupying the building that once housed the Dancin’ Bare strip club, the space has been completely reimagined as an alcohol-free sanctuary for emerging artists and music lovers.
This isn't just a place to catch a show; it’s a career launchpad. With a capacity for 400 people, the venue doubles as a workforce development center. Executive Director Andre Middleton and his team are using the facility to provide hands-on training for young people interested in sound engineering, lighting design, and event management. It bridges a crucial gap in the city's nightlife by offering professional experience in a safe environment.
After a soft launch in Fall 2025, the venue celebrated its grand opening in February 2026. The project represents a significant investment in the future of the Portland creative economy, turning a historic North Portland site into a community hub. The Off Beat is already hosting workshops and live performances, proving that the next generation of industry pros is ready to take the stage.
