Grammy-winning artist Alessia Cara is sounding the alarm on the rise of artificial intelligence in the recording studio. In a recent interview with David Friend of The Canadian Press, the "Scars to Your Beautiful" singer revealed she is deeply uncomfortable with technology that mimics artists. Cara stated that she is "all for human creation" and emphasized her preference for the "human touch" that defines the artist-to-listener relationship.
Cara’s concerns were heightened after she encountered an AI-generated track that used a digital replica of her voice. The singer described the experience as unsettling, noting that while the technology can replicate her tone, it cannot replicate the human intention behind her performances. She told The Canadian Press that it was jarring to hear herself singing something she never actually sang in a booth.

Despite the growing trend of AI-assisted songwriting across the industry, Alessia Cara remains committed to traditional methods. She believes the music business is currently navigating a "weird transitional phase" where technology often outpaces artistic ethics. By prioritizing vulnerability and real-world connection, Cara hopes to maintain the purity of the creative process as she works on new material under Def Jam Recordings.
