Cameron Diaz is officially heading back to the swamp! During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Diaz confirmed her return as Princess Fiona in the upcoming Shrek 5. The announcement marks a major career milestone for Diaz, who had largely stepped away from Hollywood for nearly a decade. She will reunite with original leads Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy, who are also reprising their iconic roles as Shrek and Donkey.

The DreamWorks Animation sequel is also introducing a new generation of voices to Far Far Away. Zendaya has joined the cast to voice Felicia, the daughter of Shrek and Fiona. She will be joined by Saturday Night Live standout Marcello Hernández as Fergus and Superman star Skyler Gisondo as Farkle. The story is set to follow the couple’s triplets as they navigate life as young adults in the first mainline Shrek installment since 2010.

While fans were originally anticipating a 2026 arrival, the timeline has shifted. Universal Pictures has officially moved the film’s release date to June 30, 2027. Directed by Walt Dohrn and produced by Chris Meledandri, the production aims to revitalize the multi-billion dollar franchise for its 25th anniversary era. The delay reportedly allows the studio to avoid a crowded summer 2026 schedule and ensures more development time for the film’s updated animation style.
