Colin Jost is trading the "Weekend Update" desk for a dentist’s chair—and a massive drug empire. The Saturday Night Live star is set to lead a new untitled drama series for Peacock, where he will portray Larry Lavin. The series follows the true story of an Ivy League-educated dentist who balanced a professional practice with a secret life as a prolific cocaine kingpin on the East Coast during the 1970s and 80s.

The project is inspired by the Audacy podcast Wolves Among Us, which detailed Lavin’s rise and eventual downfall. Alex Barnow, known for his work on The Goldbergs, will serve as the showrunner and writer. Jost is not just starring; he is also executive producing the series alongside Lorne Michaels and Broadway Video. Fans of Jost's comedy needn't worry about his late-night future, as reports confirm this new role will not impact his ongoing commitments to Saturday Night Live.

This move marks a significant dramatic shift for Jost, who has been a staple of NBC’s comedy lineup since joining the writing staff in 2005. The series is part of a growing true-crime slate at Peacock as the streamer expands its original content. Joining the production team are executive producers Brant Pinvidic, Todd Garner, and Ari Lubet, ensuring a high-profile launch for this gripping historical drama.
