A terrifying scene unfolded early Friday morning at the Hollywood Gateway Inn in Hollywood, Florida. An accidental electrical fire broke out at the hotel located at 2900 Polk Street, sending thick smoke through the hallways and forcing guests to make split-second decisions to survive. According to Hollywood Fire Rescue, the building's smoke alarms alerted the occupants, but the fast-moving smoke blocked primary exit routes for several guests.
The intensity of the situation led two individuals to jump from a second-story balcony to escape the reaching flames. Hollywood Fire Rescue crews arrived quickly on the scene to find over 60 people fleeing the building. Battalion Chief Jason Jurgal reported that while the escape was harrowing, the functional alarm system was instrumental in ensuring that dozens of people were able to exit the structure before the fire spread further.
Medical teams treated four people following the incident. Two individuals were transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation, while two others were treated for minor injuries sustained during their jump to safety. While firefighters brought the electrical fire under control within minutes, the hotel suffered significant damage. The American Red Cross was called to the scene to provide emergency assistance and temporary housing for the displaced guests.
