Christian Bale is officially passing the business card—or at least his blessing. While promoting his upcoming film The Bride! on March 3, 2026, the Oscar winner addressed Lionsgate’s plans for a new adaptation of American Psycho. Directed by Luca Guadagnino, the project marks a return to the source material of Bret Easton Ellis’s 1991 novel rather than a direct remake of the 2000 cult classic.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Bale praised the audacity of revisiting the character he made famous over two decades ago. "It’s a bold choice for anyone to try, but I like brave people," Bale said. He noted that he has fond memories of working with director Mary Harron on the original film, but he expressed genuine curiosity about how the Challengers director will interpret the dark, satirical material for a modern audience.
The Lionsgate project, which features a script by Scott Z. Burns, has yet to announce its new Patrick Bateman. Bale told The Hollywood Reporter that he wishes "all the best" to whatever actor eventually steps into the role. He noted that he welcomes new creative interpretations of the source material while he moves on to his role in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!, set for release on March 6.
