Hollywood legend James L. Brooks is adding another prestigious honor to his mantle. The Peabody Awards announced that Brooks will receive the inaugural Industry Icon Award at the 84th Annual Peabody Awards on June 9, 2024. This brand-new category recognizes individuals whose work has fundamentally transformed the media landscape through creative leadership and lasting impact.
Brooks is the creative force behind some of the most influential titles in entertainment history. He co-created the iconic animated series The Simpsons and the groundbreaking The Mary Tyler Moore Show. His success extends to the big screen as well, having earned three Academy Awards for the 1983 classic Terms of Endearment. Peabody executive director Jeffrey Jones stated that Brooks has “defined the very best of television and film for generations.”
The star-studded event is scheduled to take place at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles. Brooks leads a distinguished group of honorees this year, including Amy Poehler, who will receive the Peabody Trailblazer Award. Other notable winners include Reservation Dogs creator Sterlin Harjo and PBS Kids, which is being recognized with an Institutional Award for its decades of service to children's programming.
