Hawaii is officially back in the spotlight as a premier global filming destination. Governor Josh Green and the Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism (DBEDT) have confirmed a significant surge in production activity across the islands. Leading the charge is Sony Pictures’ next Jumanji installment, which has officially geared up for filming on Oʻahu. The high-stakes adventure sequel is currently scheduled for a theatrical release in December 2026, bringing the blockbuster franchise back to its iconic tropical roots.
Netflix is also making a major splash in the Aloha State with the action-comedy Protecting Jared. The project features a heavy-hitting lead duo: Hawaii’s own Jason Momoa and Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg. According to the Film & Television Industry Alliance, the production is currently active on Oʻahu. Additionally, the streaming giant is doubling down on local filming with the second season of the series UNTAMED, ensuring that Hawaii's soundstages and natural landscapes stay busy throughout the production cycle.
This production boom is a vital engine for the state's economy. Governor Josh Green noted that these major projects generate substantial local spending and provide high-quality employment for Hawaii-based crew members and local talent. With the Jumanji crew preparing for their 2026 debut and Momoa's latest comedy already rolling, Hawaii is solidifying its status as Hollywood’s favorite Pacific playground.
