The Kansas City Symphony is making a massive move to secure its financial future with the announcement of a brand-new, 4,600-seat live music venue. Located at 4901 Main Street in the South Plaza district, the project is slated for a 2028 opening. While the world-renowned Helzberg Hall will remain the Symphony's primary home for classical performances, this new space will cater to a wider variety of modern entertainment.
The venue is designed to attract high-profile touring artists and popular "film-with-orchestra" performances that require more capacity than existing local halls. Danny Beckley, president and CEO of the Kansas City Symphony, told KCUR that the initiative aims to expand the organization's reach and provide a stable, long-term revenue stream. By diversifying its offerings, the Symphony hopes to engage a younger audience while maintaining its artistic core at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
Ownership of the venue will remain with the Kansas City Symphony, but day-to-day operations will be handled by MEMI (Music and Event Management Inc.). As a subsidiary of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, MEMI brings extensive experience in managing large-scale music venues and booking national tours. This strategic partnership ensures the new South Plaza destination will be a competitive stop for major acts traveling through the Midwest.
