Tech giant Meta Platforms Inc. escalated its fight against sophisticated AI-generated scams this Thursday, February 26, 2026, filing lawsuits against multiple individuals and companies across Brazil, China, and Vietnam. The legal offensive targets those accused of deploying celebrity deepfakes and advanced cloaking techniques to push fraudulent products and services on Meta's platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.

In Brazil, Meta has brought legal action against Vitor Lourenço de Souza and Milena Luciani Sanchez for allegedly using altered celebrity images and voices to advertise bogus healthcare products. Separately, Meta also sued B&B Suplementos e CosmĂ©ticos Ltda., Brites Academia de Treinamento Ltda., Daniel de Brites Macieira Cordeiro, and JosĂ© Victor de Brites Chaves de AraĂșjo. This group is accused of creating deepfakes of renowned Brazilian oncologist Drauzio Varella to market unregulated healthcare products, with Brites Academia de Treinamento Ltda. even selling courses on these deceptive tactics.

Beyond Latin America, Meta's legal efforts extend to China, where Shenzhen Yunzheng Technology Co., Ltd. faces a lawsuit for allegedly using celebrity-bait ads to lure users into fake investment groups, primarily targeting individuals in the U.S. and Japan. In Vietnam, LĂœ Văn LĂąm is being sued for publishing fraudulent advertisements for discounted luxury handbags, diverting users to sites where they provided credit card information for undelivered items and incurred unauthorized recurring fees. These lawsuits underscore Meta's commitment to combating deepfake fraud, alongside its deployment of new AI detection tools and issuing cease-and-desist letters to former Meta Business Partners offering services to bypass enforcement.
