Netflix is leaning into the dark world of Scandinavian noir with its upcoming series Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole, but social media has other plans. The show’s title and the name of its protagonist, Harry Hole, have already generated a significant amount of online conversation. While the internet is having a field day with the wordplay, the series itself promises a gritty, high-stakes investigation through the streets of Oslo.
The nine-episode series is officially scheduled for a global release on March 26, 2026. It stars Tobias Santelmann as the titular detective and Joel Kinnaman as his rival, Tom Waaler. According to Netflix Tudum, the first season is an adaptation of the 2003 novel The Devil’s Star, which follows Harry Hole as he tracks a serial killer while dealing with internal corruption.
Creator Jo Nesbø is serving as the lead writer for the project, which is being produced by Working Title Television. Directors Anna Zackrisson and Øystein Karlsen are helming the production, which aims to bring the best-selling book series to life for a global audience. Despite the viral jokes, long-time fans of the novels are eager to see Santelmann’s take on the legendary, self-destructive investigator.
