Rock legend Paul McCartney is returning to his roots for his 18th solo studio album. Titled The Boys of Dungeon Lane, the record is scheduled for a global release on May 29. The announcement, confirmed by PR firm Nasty Little Man, marks McCartney’s first major solo project since the conclusion of his McCartney III trilogy in 2020.

Produced by Andrew Watt, the album is being described as McCartney’s most introspective work to date. According to The Guardian and the Liverpool Echo, the collection explores the musician's post-war childhood in Liverpool. The tracks reportedly feature lyrical reflections on his early creative bond and experiences with John Lennon and George Harrison during the years before the world met The Beatles.

To coincide with the announcement, McCartney has released the lead single, “Days We Left Behind.” Outlets including Consequence.net and BrooklynVegan have noted the track’s emotional tone, which sets the stage for the album’s historical themes. The project follows McCartney's recent high-profile collaborations with Watt, who also produced the 2023 Beatles track "Now and Then."
