Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready is taking fans back to the roots of grunge with his most ambitious solo project to date. McCready officially announced Farewell to Seasons, a dual-media experience consisting of a graphic novel and an accompanying "lost" rock opera. Published by Z2 Comics, the project has been in development for years and serves as a historical fantasy love letter to the 1980s and 1990s Seattle music scene.
The story follows the journey of a fictional musician named David Williams as he navigates the explosive rise of the Pacific Northwest rock revolution. To bring the sonic side of the story to life, McCready recruited a powerhouse lineup of rock veterans. The rock opera features original music with contributions from Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan and Dave Matthews Band bassist Stefan Lessard, blending real-world talent with McCready's fictional narrative.
Fans looking for the full experience can pre-order deluxe editions of the graphic novel, which include the rock opera tracks. Farewell to Seasons is scheduled for a wide release on October 6, 2026. McCready’s dive into the visual arts marks a significant expansion of his creative portfolio outside of Pearl Jam, offering a unique perspective on the era that defined a generation.
