Cyberpunk fans, mark your calendars. Science SARU has officially confirmed that its upcoming anime series, The Ghost in the Shell, will premiere worldwide on Prime Video in July 2026. The announcement came during AnimeJapan 2026 in Tokyo, where the studio unveiled a new promotional video and a striking second key visual. This latest adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s legendary 1989 manga is set to bring Major Motoko Kusanagi back to the screen with a fresh, analog-inspired aesthetic.

The project features a powerhouse creative team led by director Mokochan, also known as Toma Kimura, who previously worked on Dan Da Dan. Sci-fi author EnJoe Toh is handling the series composition and scripts, while Shuhei Handa serves as the character designer and chief animation director. According to Science SARU, this version aims to be a faithful adaptation of the original source material, emphasizing the dense, layered urban environments and philosophical themes that first defined the franchise.

Bandai Namco Filmworks, Kodansha, and Production I.G are collaborating on the series as part of the production committee. In Japan, the show will air on the "Ka-Anival!!" programming block across Fuji TV, Kansai TV, and their affiliates. The soundtrack is being composed by a trio consisting of Taisei Iwasaki, Ryo Konishi, and Yuki Kanesaka under the FlyingDog music label. Prime Video will hold an exclusive early release window for global streaming before the episodes hit Japanese television.
