Steven Spielberg is officially returning to the world of high-concept science fiction with his next major project at Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment. The project, currently referred to as an Untitled Event Film, is scheduled for a wide theatrical release on May 15, 2026. The production is a large-scale, fast-paced action movie that will serve as the director's next major cinematic venture.
The script is being penned by David Koepp, who previously collaborated with Spielberg on hits like Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds. Speaking to Empire Magazine, Koepp declined to provide specific details about the upcoming film. He noted that he is not going to say anything about it, keeping the nature of the massive project strictly under wraps as development continues.

The production has assembled a star-studded cast to lead the 2026 tentpole. Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor are set to star, alongside Colman Domingo, Eve Hewson, and Colin Firth. This marks Spielberg's first significant venture into the sci-fi genre since 2018’s Ready Player One, positioning the film as one of the most anticipated releases of the summer season.
