Your monthly credit card statement might finally get some relief. Fox Corporation's Tubi and Paramount Global's Pluto TV are reporting a massive surge in viewership this March as "subscription fatigue" officially sets in. With Netflix, Disney+, and Warner Bros. Discovery's Max all implementing price hikes over the last year, viewers are flocking to Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV (FAST) services that offer premium content without the bill.
This month, Tubi is significantly expanding its library, adding hundreds of classic films and niche television series to its catalog of over 50,000 titles. Meanwhile, Pluto TV is launching new curated channels to keep up with the record demand. According to data from Deloitte, the average household now manages five or more streaming subscriptions, leading many to seek out free alternatives to cut back on monthly entertainment costs.
Industry leaders are taking notice. Roku Inc. and Amazon's Freevee are also joining the expansion race, securing licensing deals for older hits that were previously exclusive to paid tiers. As CNET reports, the shift toward ad-supported models proves that while audiences hate high prices, they are increasingly willing to sit through a few commercials to keep their favorite shows accessible for free.
