The first weekend of the 2026 Ultra Music Festival took a dark turn on Saturday morning, March 28. Miami Police Department officers responded to reports of a man acting erratically near Bayfront Park in downtown Miami. According to reports from WSVN 7News and the Miami Herald, the confrontation quickly escalated into a shooting.
Authorities stated that an officer first attempted to subdue the suspect using a Taser, but the device proved ineffective. The officer then discharged their firearm, resulting in injuries to both the officer and the suspect. Details regarding the exact nature of the officer's injuries have not yet been released by officials, but the scene remained heavily cordoned off for several hours following the incident.
Both individuals were rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospitalâs Ryder Trauma Center for treatment. The incident is currently under investigation as thousands of fans continue to gather for the massive electronic dance music event. Despite the police activity nearby, Ultra Music Festival organizers have not yet announced any changes to the scheduled performances for the remainder of the weekend.
