The Hollywood premiere of "Scream 7" on February 25, 2026, was met with a vocal protest outside the Paramount Pictures studio lot in Los Angeles. Activists from organizations including Entertainment Labor for Palestine, CODEPINK LA, and Jewish Voice for Peace-Los Angeles staged a "Free Palestine" demonstration, drawing attention to the controversial firing of actress Melissa Barrera from the horror franchise.
Barrera was dismissed by Spyglass Media Group in November 2023 following a series of social media posts concerning the Israel-Hamas conflict. Her posts included descriptions of Gaza as a "concentration camp" and allegations of "genocide and ethnic cleansing" by the Israeli government. Spyglass Media Group responded to her comments by issuing a statement emphasizing a "zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form."
During the protest, demonstrators carried signs with pro-Palestinian messages and chanted slogans like "From the river to the sea Palestine will be free" and "Boycott Scream 7." The protest aimed to highlight what organizers called "the industry's widespread silencing of pro-Palestinian voices." Responding to the demonstration, "Scream 7" director Kevin Williamson told The Hollywood Reporter, "I saw them and my heart just sort of stopped... Everyone has a right to protest and everyone should be heard... I support that 100 percent."
"Scream 7" is directed by Kevin Williamson and stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and other returning and new cast members. The film is set to be released in the United States on February 27, 2026.
