Indie folk maestro Angelo De Augustine has officially unveiled details for his highly anticipated fifth studio album, 'Angel In Plainclothes', set to captivate listeners on April 24, 2026. This significant announcement comes from Asthmatic Kitty Records and marks De Augustine's return after a profound personal journey. Fans can get a first taste of the new music with the lead single, 'Mirror Mirror', which was released on February 25, 2026.
The upcoming album chronicles De Augustine's multi-year battle with a sudden, undiagnosed illness in early 2022, which saw him relearning fundamental abilities such as walking and talking. The Southern California singer-songwriter, known for his collaborative work with Sufjan Stevens, has channeled this deeply personal experience into his music, creating what is described as his most inspired and powerful work yet.
The first single, 'Mirror Mirror,' offers a fresh direction for De Augustine, moving beyond his characteristic single-instrument compositions. The track features an experimental soundscape created by layering a bowed psaltery with manipulated tape machine effects and electric guitars. He reportedly wrote, recorded, arranged, produced, and mixed the album at his A Secret Place studio and, for the first time in years, welcomed collaborators including string arranger Oliver Hill and co-producer Jonathan Wilson. To celebrate this new chapter, Angelo De Augustine will also embark on his first U.S. tour in seven years this May, with Hannah Frances joining him.
