Bob Odenkirk is officially back in action mode. The Better Call Saul star recently touched down in Austin, Texas, for the U.S. premiere of his latest film, Normal, at the SXSW Film & TV Festival. The project marks a high-profile reunion for Odenkirk and writer Derek Kolstad, who previously collaborated on the 2021 sleeper hit Nobody. Kolstad, also known for creating the John Wick franchise, brings his signature gritty style to this Midwestern-set thriller.
In the film, Odenkirk portrays Ulysses, an interim sheriff looking for a quiet life in the small town of Normal. However, his peaceful retirement is cut short when he discovers the community is harboring a deadly secret. Directed by Ben Wheatley, whose previous credits include Meg 2: The Trench and Free Fire, the movie was filmed on location in Winnipeg. The production drew significant attention for its practical stunts and Odenkirk’s physical transformation for the role.
While Normal first debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025, the SXSW screening has generated fresh buzz ahead of its commercial launch. Audiences across the country will be able to see the sheriff in action very soon. Normal is currently scheduled for a wide theatrical release on April 17, 2026. Early reviews from the Austin premiere highlight Odenkirk's performance as a compelling follow-up to his previous action-heavy roles.
