France is officially taking home top honors, being named the 2026 Creative Country of the Year by the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. This prestigious accolade celebrates France's remarkable and ongoing commitment to creativity across diverse sectors, including advertising, fashion, technology, and culture. The announcement highlights the nation's consistent global creative leadership and its role in driving progress and growth within the creative economy.

Simon Cook, CEO of LIONS, lauded France, stating, "France is a country with an exceptional creative output. Its rich creative heritage and outstanding performance at Cannes Lions reflect a nation that understands creativity is a strategic economic asset that can drive progress." Since 2020, the French government has invested an impressive €10 billion into over 20,000 creative businesses, with its cultural and creative industries generating €92 billion in annual revenue.

France has a storied history with Cannes Lions, having won its first Lion for Camay Soap in 1954 and its inaugural Grand Prix for Vins du Postillon in 1955. To date, the country boasts an impressive 1,603 Lions and 39 Grands Prix. It consistently ranks among the top 10 performing countries, securing 4th place in 2025. Notably, French brand AXA was the top-ranked brand at the 2025 Festival, earning 13 awards, including three Grands Prix for its 'AXA – Three Words' campaign by Publicis Conseil, Paris. As part of this recognition, the 2026 Festival, running from June 22-26, 2026, will feature special French creative showcases and events.
