Dionne Warwick is not walking away from a fight. The legendary singer filed a countersuit against Artists Rights Enforcement Corporation (AREC) this week, accusing the firm of "pilfering" millions of dollars in royalty income over the last 25 years. This legal move follows an initial lawsuit filed by AREC in December 2025, which alleged Warwick breached their contract by attempting to bypass their commission.

The dispute centers on a contract signed back in 2001. AREC, led by founder Chuck Rubin, claims the agreement grants them a 50% cut of Warwick’s royalties in perpetuity for their recovery services. However, Warwick’s legal team argues the original document was a simple, one-page agreement signed without a lawyer to resolve a specific royalty issue from the 1990s, rather than a lifelong commitment.

Warwick is now seeking to invalidate the contract and recover the funds she claims were wrongfully taken. The "Walk On By" singer alleges that AREC overstepped its bounds by intercepting payments she never intended to share. As the case moves forward in court, the battle highlights the long-standing tensions between veteran artists and the firms that manage their historical catalogs.
