Las Vegas gambler Robert James "R.J." Cipriani has raised the stakes in a massive legal battle against Paramount Skydance President Jeff Shell. In a lawsuit filed on March 9, 2026, Cipriani is seeking $150 million in damages for alleged fraud. The filing claims that Shell reneged on an oral agreement to develop an English-language adaptation of the music reality series "Serenata De Las Estrellas" (Star Serenade) after the gambler provided "extensive" crisis communications services to the executive.
According to reports from Variety and the Los Angeles Times, Cipriani alleges that he and Shell formed a close bond during which Cipriani offered strategic advice. The suit claims Shell promised a lucrative TV deal in exchange for this help but ultimately cut ties once the services were rendered. Cipriani, often known by the moniker "Robin Hood 702," asserts that the executive used his expertise without any intention of fulfilling the production deal.
The legal filing also contains bombshell allegations regarding Paramount's internal business dealings. Cipriani claims that Shell disclosed sensitive, non-public information, including details of a $7.7 billion UFC deal. Furthermore, the lawsuit alleges Shell shared confidential updates regarding Paramount’s pursuit of a potential merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. As of this report, representatives for Shell and Paramount have not issued a formal response to the specific claims in the complaint.
