Hoda Kotb isn’t ready to say goodbye to the Studio 1A anchor desk just yet. After returning to NBC’s Today show in February 2026, Kotb has officially extended her interim stint as co-anchor. While fans are thrilled to see her back, Variety reports that this stay is strictly temporary while Savannah Guthrie remains on family leave.

Kotb initially stepped away from her full-time role in early 2025 to focus on her family. However, she stepped back into her old shoes last month to support the broadcast during Guthrie’s absence. According to TV Insider, NBC executives have reached an agreement with Kotb to keep her in the seat for an extended period, though she has no plans to return to a permanent, full-time capacity.

The extension provides much-needed stability for the 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. hours, where Kotb and Guthrie have shared the screen for years. While Sheinelle Jones and other NBC regulars have stepped in to assist, the network is leaning on Kotb’s familiar presence for the foreseeable future. For now, Hoda is balancing her guest duties with her ongoing personal projects, proving that even a "retired" anchor can’t stay away from the morning news grind for long.
