DC Studios is officially heading to the stars. Milly Alcock, known for her breakout role in House of the Dragon, is set to lead Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as Kara Zor-El. Fans now have a date to circle on their calendars: the film will land in U.S. theaters on June 26, 2026, while international audiences will see the hero take flight starting June 24, 2026.
The project is a cornerstone of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.” Director Craig Gillespie, the filmmaker behind I, Tonya and Cruella, is at the helm. The script, penned by Ana Nogueira, draws direct inspiration from the 2021-2022 comic book limited series written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely.
Unlike the traditional origin stories of her cousin, Superman, this iteration of Kara Zor-El promises a grittier space adventure. Gunn previously described this version of Supergirl as a character who grew up on a “rock chip off of Krypton” watching everyone around her perish. This high-stakes sci-fi epic follows the July 11, 2025, release of Gunn’s own Superman film, solidifying the new era of DC at Warner Bros. Discovery.
