Netflix is officially entering the AI era with a blockbuster acquisition. The streaming leader has reached a deal to acquire InterPositive, an artificial intelligence filmmaking startup founded by Oscar-winner Ben Affleck. Reported to be worth up to $600 million, the deal marks one of Netflix's most significant investments in production technology to date. Affleck is set to join the company as a senior adviser to guide how these tools are used across the platform's massive slate of original content.

Unlike controversial text-to-video generative models, InterPositive’s technology is built specifically for the editing room. The software uses a project’s own raw footage, or "dailies," to help directors handle technical tasks like reframing shots, adjusting lighting, and removing unwanted objects like stunt wires. According to Elizabeth Stone, Netflix’s Chief Technology and Product Officer, the goal is to give filmmakers more control and consistency without replacing the human touch. Director David Fincher reportedly already utilized the tech on an upcoming project starring Brad Pitt.

As part of the March 2026 agreement, InterPositive’s 16-member team of engineers and researchers will move into Eyeline, Netflix’s unified visual effects division. This move follows a strategic pivot for Netflix, which recently abandoned an $82.7 billion bid for Warner Bros. Discovery to focus on internal innovation. Bela Bajaria, Netflix's Chief Content Officer, emphasized that these tools are designed to "expand creative freedom" for directors and crews rather than automate their jobs. The acquisition signals a new chapter for the streaming wars, where the real battle is happening behind the camera.
