The nominations for the 98th annual Academy Awards were officially unveiled on Thursday, January 22, 2026, live from the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Oscar-nominated actor Danielle Brooks and actor Lewis Pullman had the honors of announcing this year's highly anticipated list. Leading the charge and rewriting the Oscar history books is Ryan Coogler's vampire epic, 'Sinners,' which secured an astounding 16 nominations. This incredible feat surpasses the previous record of 14 nominations, a benchmark held jointly by cinematic giants 'All About Eve' (1950), 'Titanic' (1997), and 'La La Land' (2016).
Coogler himself earned nominations for Best Director and Best Screenplay, while the film's star, Michael B. Jordan, received his first-ever Oscar nomination for Best Actor. Not far behind, Paul Thomas Anderson's 'One Battle After Another' garnered an impressive 13 nominations, with Leonardo DiCaprio earning a Best Actor nod and Teyana Taylor and Benicio del Toro both recognized in supporting acting categories. Other films making a strong showing include 'Marty Supreme' and 'Frankenstein,' both earning nine nominations, and 'Hamnet,' which secured eight nods.
The 98th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the iconic Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The gala event will be televised live on ABC and available to stream on Hulu, with Conan O'Brien returning as host. Notably, this year marks the introduction of a brand new category: Best Casting, the first new competitive Oscar category added in 25 years. Warner Bros. Pictures also celebrated a remarkable performance, tying its own 2005 record with a total of 30 nominations across its slate of films.
