Punk rock pioneer Jello Biafra is currently hospitalized following a serious medical emergency. The 67-year-old artist, born Eric Reed Boucher, suffered a hemorrhagic stroke at his home and was admitted for treatment on Saturday, March 7, 2026. A press release from Alternative Tentacles reported by the Georgia Straight confirms that the singer is currently in stable condition.
Biafra is a monumental figure in the San Francisco underground scene, best known as the original frontman and songwriter for the Dead Kennedys. Since 1979, he has also managed the influential independent record label Alternative Tentacles. This health scare follows a busy period for the activist, who recently made headlines for his vocal criticism of his former bandmates regarding their festival appearances.
According to sources familiar with his recovery, the "California Über Alles" singer is currently hospitalized and focused on his future rehabilitation. While the stroke was a significant event, Biafra is reportedly in good spirits and focused on his physical therapy. He has expressed every intention of returning to his various musical projects and spoken word performances once he completes his recovery process.
