Gymnastics powerhouse Simone Biles, widely celebrated as the most decorated gymnast in history and a four-time Laureus Sportswoman of the Year Award winner, has taken on an inspiring new role. She was officially announced as the latest Laureus ambassador this week, joining a global roster of athletes dedicated to social change through sport.
Biles wasted no time diving into her new responsibilities. Her first engagement saw her visiting Polisportiva Garegnano in Milan, Italy, a Laureus-supported gymnastics and multi-sport project. This program offers safe and inclusive opportunities for children and young people, with a particular focus on empowering girls to build confidence, resilience, and life skills through athletic participation. During her visit, Biles spent time directly with the young athletes on the mats, offering encouragement and sharing her experiences.
The announcement followed Biles' presence in Italy, where she and her husband, Jonathan Owens of the NFL's Chicago Bears, were attending the Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games as spectators. Expressing her enthusiasm for the new role, Biles stated, "Laureus has played a meaningful role in my journey for many years, and I am incredibly proud to have been honoured four times as Laureus Sportswoman of the Year... Today I am just as proud to be joining Laureus as an Ambassador." She further added her belief that "sport has the power to change the world." Legendary gymnast and Laureus Academy Member Nadia Comăneci welcomed Biles, calling her "an extraordinary athlete and an extraordinary person" and a "powerful force for positive change."
