Center Theatre Group Artistic Director Snehal Desai has officially revealed the company's ambitious 2026-27 season. The upcoming slate features a heavy mix of world premieres and Broadway transfers across the Ahmanson Theatre, Mark Taper Forum, and Kirk Douglas Theatre. Desai noted the lineup aims to tell a "programmatic story" for Los Angeles audiences that carries a "very L.A. vibe."
The season kicks off at the Mark Taper Forum with the world premiere of The Turning, an original folk-thriller musical by Zack Zadek directed by Sammi Cannold. Set in California’s Sequoia groves, the production marks a significant investment in new works development. Other major highlights include Cole Escola's dark comedy hit Oh, Mary! and the West Coast premiere of Kimberly Belflower's John Proctor Is the Villain.
For those seeking classic drama and family fun, the schedule includes August Wilson’s Fences and Dog Man: The Musical, the latter of which hits the Kirk Douglas Theatre in September 2026. The season will also feature Karen Zacarías’ Destiny of Desire, Boop! The Musical, and the holiday-themed Christmas Carol Goes Wrong from the Mischief Comedy team. Desai stated the diverse offerings are intended to provide both "comedic relief" and "thought-provoking" moments for the city.
