Spotify is setting the record straight on artist pay with its latest financial data. According to the company’s newly released Loud & Clear report, the streaming giant paid out more than $11 billion in royalties during the 2025 calendar year. This figure marks the highest annual payout from any single retailer in music history, as the company pushes to improve its public image regarding artist compensation.

The report highlights a significant surge for mid-tier creators reaching new financial milestones. Spotify confirmed that nearly 14,000 artists generated at least $100,000 in royalties from the platform last year alone. This transparency initiative aims to dispel the narrative that only global superstars see significant revenue from streaming, showing a growing "streaming middle class" across various genres.

A major takeaway from the data is the success of the independent sector. Independent artists and labels accounted for a substantial portion of the record-breaking 2025 payouts, continuing a trend of decentralized growth in the industry. Since its inception, Spotify has now distributed nearly $70 billion to music rights holders, including record labels, publishers, and performing rights organizations.
