Ubisoft has announced a major restructuring at Red Storm Entertainment, resulting in the layoff of 105 employees. The North Carolina-based studio, which became famous for developing the Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon franchises, will officially cease all active game development. This shift marks the end of an era for one of the industry’s most recognizable tactical shooter specialists.
Moving forward, the remaining team at Red Storm will transition into a global support role. According to reports from GamesIndustry.biz and IGN, the studio will now focus on internal IT operations and providing technical support for the Snowdrop engine, the proprietary technology powering titles like Star Wars Outlaws and The Division. The decision is part of Ubisoft’s ongoing effort to streamline operations and reduce overhead costs across its international branches.
This news follows a troubling trend for the Cary-based developer. This is the third consecutive year Red Storm Entertainment has faced staff reductions, following previous layoffs in August 2024 and July 2025. While Ubisoft has not confirmed any new project cancellations alongside this news, the move signals a definitive pivot away from the studio’s traditional role as a lead developer in the AAA space.
