Oscar-nominated filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos has stepped away from the awards season circuit to inaugurate his first major photography exhibition in his hometown of Athens. The show, titled "Yorgos Lanthimos: Photographs," opened at Onassis Stegi on March 6 and features 182 images captured by the director over the last five years. Lanthimos told the Associated Press that photography offers a "freer" creative outlet where he can escape the rigid rules of conventional film narratives.
Curated by Michael Mack, the exhibition is housed in a gallery space designed to resemble a classical Greek temple. The collection includes personal works alongside images taken on the fringes of his recent film sets in New Orleans, Atlanta, and Budapest. Visitors can view the photographs through May 17, marking a rare opportunity to see the filmmaker's meditative lens applied to the ordinary landscapes of the Aegean Sea and the artificial soundstages used for Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness.

This creative diversion comes just days before Lanthimos returns to Hollywood for the 98th Academy Awards on March 15. His latest feature, Bugonia, produced by Element Pictures and distributed by Focus Features, is a contender for four honors. Emma Stone is nominated for Best Actress for her leading role in the sci-fi comedy, which also earned nods for Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay for Will Tracy, and Original Score for Jerskin Fendrix.
