Alt-pop artist D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, is reportedly the “Target” of a Los Angeles County grand jury investigation into the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. The Queens-born singer, 20, is facing intense scrutiny after the discovery of the deceased teenager's body in the front trunk of his 2023 Tesla Model Y last year.

Court documents, which were initially sealed in California but made public through a Texas appeal by Burke's family, explicitly state the grand jury is investigating allegations that the “Target may be involved in having committed the following criminal offenses against the laws of the State of California, to wit: One count of Murder.” Subpoenas were issued on January 15, 2026, requesting testimony from Burke's mother, Colleen Burke; father, Dawud Burke; and brother, Caleb Burke.

Celeste Rivas Hernandez was reported missing in April 2024 from Lake Elsinore when she was 13. Her severely decomposed and dismembered remains were found on September 8, 2025—a day before her 15th birthday—in the trunk of Burke’s Tesla after tow yard employees reported a strong odor emanating from the vehicle, which had been abandoned in the Hollywood Hills. While Burke has not been arrested or charged, the Los Angeles Police Department previously confirmed a romantic relationship between Rivas Hernandez and Burke. Following the discovery, Burke canceled the remainder of his U.S. tour dates.
